What is your system for getting inspired?

Do you ever notice what I call the “New Year’s Gym” Phenomenon? Every year, without fail, the gym, yoga class, spin class is PACKED with people. For the month of January these venues feel like they are bursting at the seams, full of people with New Year's Resolutions.

Then as February hits the crowds begin to shrink, and things start to get quiet again. This phenomenon happens year after year. One potential reason for this is people have not implemented a system to keep their workout routine going. They have not implemented a sustainable inspiration system.

February 14th of 2024 marked my 6-year anniversary as an avid member of the Peloton community. It is no coincidence that on February 14th, of 2018 the greatest Valentines Day gift ever was delivered to my house, and I fell in love. Since that day my system for inspiration has been my Peloton, and all the Peloton instructors who offer stories, wisdom, advice that at times shocks and move me to my core.

I’ve since implemented other systems to support my Peloton system …

  • Every Friday I pull out my calendar for the TWO weeks ahead and I block off a 60-minute window each day for my workouts. Those time slots are denoted in PINK.

  • My husband and I have a shared calendar so we never end up working out at the same time (he works from home too).

  • On days I am working out, I put my workout clothes on as soon as I wake-up.

Ask anyone in my world, and they will tell you that I preserve and protect this time like I am protecting my children from danger. And this Peloton, this bike, has in turn supported me through the darkest of times, the most challenging days, and all the moments of joy in between.

I’ve pedaled through the birth of my second son; I’ve pedaled through the recovery and rehab of a hip replacement; I’ve pedaled through a global pandemic; I’ve pedaled through 2022 (a particularly challenging year for me professionally). I just kept pedaling. And those Peloton instructors were there with me every single step of the way.

So what system or systems do you have in place for getting inspired? Remember - Leadership has EVERYTHING to do with inspiration, and inspiration is your own responsibility.

The Law of Inspiration goes : Inspiration In = Inspiration Out

Are any of you thinking, “I don’t have time to add another system into my schedule” or “I don’t have time to fit in a workout”? Well, before you read on, I offer you this WARNING. You may not like what you are about to read …

I am going to offer something one of my most favorite Peloton Instructors Robin Arzon said last week … Robin said, replace “I don’t have time” with “it’s not important”.

Did someone just say “WOW”?

When I first heard this, I was rendered speechless - shocked at how accurate that actually is. If I am saying “I don’t have time”, what is actually true is that it is not important enough to me to create the time.

Where or with whom are you saying “I don’t have time”? Identify it, and replace it with “It is not important”. How is that landing for you now? I say this with love, and my hope is this lands as a HEAVY truth.

Perhaps this heavy truth has just bumped you into an area of your life where it is time to implement a brand-new inspiration system!

Courage always,

PS: Now, the only next step is to CHOOSE to create the time for the Alchemy Leadership Experience - a tried and true system for creating sustainable inspiration in your life.
